Create Departments and
Production Lines (if needed).
Since MaintSmart considers all aspects of any equipment maintenance operation it
must also consider lost production time due to equipment failure. Production time could be
any lost opportunity that may be quantified into additional wage expense due to a
lengthened production schedule. This cost is allocated to the failed equipment item.
Departments
are also used to group equipment. Just as work areas (or engineer
areas) associate equipment item(s) to a specific maintenance person
departments associate equipment items to a specific manufacturing
department. Why a maintenance program would want to know about
manufacturing departments, you ask? MaintSmart's creators understood
that to properly identify the source of equipment problem you need to
sometimes look beyond just the maintenance department's area of
responsibility.
Production lines (or plant
lines) contain departments and are contiguous groups of dependant
equipment items. For example in a commercial bakery a Plant
Line might
be the Bread Line. This entire plant
production line is required to produce a loaf of bread. This Bread Line might
contain 2 departments: the Bread Production department and the Bread Wrapping department.
MaintSmart addresses ALL facets of any
equipment maintenance operation.
