What Should I Do For Maximum Immediate Improvement?
One way of gaining maximum
benefit for your equipment maintenance operation would be to evaluate
entire groups of equipment (work areas) at one time. Work areas are
logical groupings of equipment assigned to one person for the purpose of
preventive maintenance. Next select the 2 or 3 equipment items with the
lowest MTBF (>0) and/or equipment items
displaying and increasing failure rate. Of course common sense and your
expertise may be needed in this decision. Aftre selecting some target
equipment items perform the cost of machine analysis and more importantly
the Causes of Failures analysis. Causes of
Failures guides you in assigning the proper PM task list and
intervals for the purpose of circumventing future failures. Monitor the
reliability of these equipment items and adjust their PM task lists as needed.
